Favourite Author Friday -- KaLyn Cooper

I'm so excited to be introducing a new feature, where I will introduce some of my most favourite artists. Authors are my Rockstars and I go quite fangrrl!

Please help me welcome KaLyn Cooper, a fabulous writer and a lovely lady I've had the great pleasure to meet. If you've yet to read her work I highly suggest you check it out as I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

So without further ado . . .

Are you usually late, early or right on time?
I have to confess, I am almost always…late. Even though I keep my watch set five minutes ahead, the clock in my car ten minutes ahead, I’m still most often late. See, I have this habit of lying to myself. “Sure, you have time to curl your hair before you go.” Or, “Sure, you can get the next scene down before you have to leave.”
Okay, it’s really “Of course you have time to check Facebook once again before you go.”
What was the last thing you ate?
Macho Marine and I tried a new-to-us restaurant that I’d heard about from the food editor of the local newspaper. She was interviewing me about a publishing workshop I was giving to local authors and mentioned it in passing. It was good ole fashioned home cookin’ so I had the special of the day, chicken and dumplings. Now, mind you, I wasn’t born in the South but I got here just as soon as I could. And after nineteen moves coast to coast and around the world, I prefer Southern cooking and Southern lifestyles.
What was the last picture you took with your phone?
Earlier in the week our rather old bird dog, a Britany Spaniel, needed out and Macho Marine was travelling. Usually he’s up before the sun so I never have to worry about the dog at that hour. So as I watched the sun peek over the Great Smoky Mountains, I couldn’t resist the pictures. The sun was exceptionally orange as it creeped upward then suddenly it was a new day.

What was the last lie you told?
I lied to the nurse in the ER about my weight. I skimmed off about ten pounds. Doesn’t every woman? It’s our right to do so, as far as I’m concerned. I was there to have the seven stitches removed they’d put in ten days prior. Seems I had an argument with the food processor. It won. I received what Macho Marine deemed my Frankin’ Finger.
What is your favourite book?
This is a tough one because I read about 200 books a year and write about three or four of my own. Then there are the five to six I critique and edit. I have about 25 favorite authors that are an “always buy” for me but my all-time favorite is Elizabeth Lowell. I aspire to be as good an author as she is. I’ll have to say any book by her is a go-to for me and I re-read them often.
Do you prefer flowers or chocolates for Valentine’s Day and why?
Valentine’s Day was not a biggie for me until three years ago when Macho Marine brought home a dozen chocolate covered strawberries artfully decorated in a pretty little white box. I was in shock! MM and I started dating right after he killed that last dinosaur, so I have many, many years of Valentine’s Days without flowers or chocolates unless I bought them for myself. I’ve learned though you can teach an old dog new tricks. You just have to be creative with their rewards. Every year I now get chocolate covered strawberries.
What is your favourite flower and why?
Yellow roses. While still in the courting phase of our relationship, MM sent me roses for my birthday which that year was only days after Mother’s Day. The florist substituted yellow roses since they were completely out of red ones. They were so bright and beautiful, and I loved them because they were from MM and the first roses I’d ever received. Well, being who he is, and the outrageous price he’d paid for a dozen red roses that time of the year, he had a discussion with the florist and magically a dozen red roses showed up the next day with huge apologies from the shop owner who delivered them himself. MM never buys me flowers anymore unless they are to plant in the yard, but fresh yellow roses always adorn my table. I buy them because they make me happy!
