Character Interview with Mekai from BEYOND REACH by Jessica E. Subject

Character Interview with Mekai from BEYOND REACH by Jessica E. Subject

Most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?

Mekai: That would be the time I tried to impress a girl down in the caves of Carbae, the moon I live on, and slipped. I fell into the water, and the girl took off. But, my best friend stayed behind. Not to help me, but to lean against the cave walls and laugh. After I changed into dry clothes, he wouldn’t let me forget about it. He still brings the occasion up every chance he gets.

What would be the best gift someone could get for you?

Mekai: A ticket off this damn moon. I may not be able to go to Ubetron, but there are plenty of other planets in this galaxy and universe I could go to.

Do you have any pets? If no why not?

Mekai: Pets? I’ve heard that term before. It is some kind of animal that is tamed and lives indoors. No, we don’t. My father would never allow an animal of any kind in the castle. And there are no animals dumb enough to live on Carbae anyway.

Did you play as a child? If so what did you do and did you find yourself in trouble?

Mekai: I played every day after I finished my chores. Usually in the caves, which always got me into trouble. No one is supposed to go into them, but we always do. Now that I’m older, my father doesn’t follow me around as much.

What are your favourite:

Food: Anything that is not cold. Food has to be cooked in a fireplace, and wood has to be imported. Most of it is used to heat the castle, the rest going to making meals for the community.

Drink: Mead. Though it isn’t imported to our planet very often.

Music: Any time sweet voices come together. We don’t have instruments on Carbae, but that doesn’t stop the people from singing and making music with their bodies.

Books: These are banned on Carbae.

Movies: I don’t even know what these are.

Sports: Some of us race to see who can get our chores completed the fastest. There are no organized sports on Carbae though.

Recreation: Besides exploring the caves, we like to go rock climbing, or see how close we can get to the bright side of Carbae before it becomes too hot.

What is the best way to spend the weekend?

Mekai: There are no weekends on Carbae. We do chores every day and then have free time to do whatever we want. Though, that’s not much time at all. Can you see why I want to leave Carbae? I have a plan to leave though, and I’m just about to put it into place. Wish me luck.

EXCERPT:

Walking into the silky rear-end of an uidiss, she came to an abrupt halt. The creature had been walking at a steady pace and then stopped. She’d failed to notice in time. Wiping fluff off her face, she turned around and walked into another hard body. “I’m so sorry.”

Hands clamped down on her arms. “Are you all right?”

She stared up into deep brown eyes. Chewing her bottom lip, she nodded. If this man hadn’t been holding on to her, she would have fallen to the ground. The word swoon held no meaning for her until now.

Am I only like this because of the ipsum I inhaled back home? Or was there something more she found heart-racing about the blue-skinned, well-muscled hunk of an Ubetron who held her up?

No, she couldn’t feel anything for him. Their races had been sworn enemies for years. Everyone across the galaxy knew that. Yet here she was, standing face to face, gazing intently at him, with no will to move.

He smiled at her, drawing her attention from his eyes to his lips. How would they taste? She’d never kissed anyone intimately before.

“You look familiar. What’s your name?”

Name? Gods, what was her name? “Ni…Nixie.” Had she told him, or only thought the word?

He released her arms to brush his fingers along her jaw line. How she remained standing, she had no idea.

“Nixie. A beautiful name belonging to a beautiful woman. Have we met before?”

Moisture pooled between her thighs. Her cheeks warmed. “Thank you, but no.” She’d definitely remember meeting him.

As he trailed a hand down her arm, she sighed. Her entire body tingled from his gentle touch.

“Okay, weird. You must remind me of someone else. Now tell me, why were you in such a rush that you walked into the rear end of that slow-moving beast? We’re supposed to be on vacation, enjoying all this planet has to offer.”

Laughing at his description of the uidiss, she leaned against his arm. Never before had she enjoyed a man’s attention like this. “I’m not visiting. I live here. Have my whole life.”

He raised his eyebrows. “Really? So, what was it like growing up on the pleasure planet?”

TOP TEN SCIENCE FICTION SHOWS ON NETFLIX By Jessica E. Subject

TOP TEN SCIENCE FICTION SHOWS ON NETFLIX

Approximately one year ago, we got rid of cable and ordered Netflix. Since then, I’ve watched several science fiction shows and am working on others. Some I watched many years ago and had missed episodes, while some are totally new to me. I live in Canada, so I don’t have the selection that US customers do, but I have been able to view some fabulous shows. Other popular sci-fi shows, I’ve watched, but just don’t care for. So, here’s my list...
1. The 100
2. Dr. Who
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation
4. X-Files
5. The Walking Dead
6. Z-Nation
7. Lost
8. Jericho
9. Roswell
10. The 4400

Tell me, what shows would you add to this list?

Excerpts:
Excerpt 1 (PG-13)
From Satin Sheets in Space:
That’s it, I’m leaving. She didn’t need to stick around and be reminded of another night she’d been stood up by a blind date and passed over by every other available male.
After slipping her shoes on and grabbing her clutch, she headed for the door.
“Leaving so soon?”
She shivered at the sound of the deep, sexy voice. Spinning around, she gazed up at an enormous, captivating man. Very rarely did she meet a guy so much taller than herself. His black velvet justacorps fit tight across his broad shoulders, but not too snug. And the silk shirt lining his wide chest matched the color of her dress. Almost as if they were made for each other. I can only hope.
Flowing down his back, his long, thick, dark mane appeared to have feathers throughout. In the dim lighting, his hair, and even his skin had a faint blue glow. She couldn’t help but be enthralled by his presence; was sure she stood in front of him with her mouth hanging open.
“I…I’m going home.”
“When the night is still so young?” He brushed his hand down her bare arm. “What could be more fun at home? Perhaps you might even enjoy some company?”
How she’d love to spend the night in this man’s company. But this had to be some kind of joke. She looked around for cameras, anxious faces. No one as hot as this man could want to spend a night with her. “It’s been a long day. I was stood up by my date, and my friends no longer need me to stick around.”
Great! She’d just told the guy she was alone. Might as well have put a target on my back.
He rested his hand on her hip, sending intense sexual energy zinging straight to her core. “You mean you wouldn’t want to enjoy an evening in my company? Because I’m your date.”
Excerpt 2 (PG-13)
From Celestial Seduction:
She stood in front of him then and held out her hands. His black eyes met hers as he wrapped her hands in his. “You’re okay with what I told you?”
“No, but I’m trying to stay open-minded.” She tried to keep her hands from shaking even as she showed him she could handle the information. “I don’t feel like you want to hurt me though.”
He lightly squeezed her hands, a smile forming on his lips. “I would never bring you harm.”
Lifting one hand up, she gently placed it on the side of his face. “Will you show me what you really look like? I can see your real eyes, but I want to see the rest.”
“You won’t run away?” She winced seeing all of the confidence he’d had at the beginning of the night gone, but it made her trust him even more. “Whatever you do, please don’t scream.”
“I promised to stay the entire night, didn’t I? And don’t worry, I don’t scream unless someone sneaks up on me, or if I see a spider. You don’t look like a spider, do you?” The very thought sent a chill through her body.
He smiled, some of his confidence back while his human image flickered for a few seconds before completely disappearing. Unsure what to expect, she tried not to judge until she’d set eyes on his entire figure. Long, spindly fingers intertwined with hers. He tried to let go, but she held them tight. His body appeared taller and leaner than before. She saw the same black eyes, a less prominent nose and barely visible ears. His hair became jet black and appeared longer and curlier than before. Underneath luminescent scales, his skin shone a light blue.
“So, what do you think?” His mouth quirked, revealing his uncertainty.
Except for their color, his lips were the only thing that didn’t change. She leaned towards him, wondering if they would still feel the same. She had to stand on the tips of her toes to reach him, but wrapping her arms around his neck helped. The feel of his skin surprised her. Perhaps he didn’t have scales, but the pattern lay beneath his skin.
He’s beautiful.
Excerpt 3 (Adult)
From Another Night, Another Planet:
“Okay, what do you do? How’d you end up on Elatia?”
“A little of this and that. Transporting small packages between planets, mostly.” Cargo no one else wanted to carry. He grasped her hips, sliding her toward him, her robe slipping up her thighs. She grasped his shoulders and stared at him, eyes wide. But no objection came from her lips, so he continued. “As for why I’m here, well, I came to meet you. Right now, I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
Her cheeks flushed, and he could think of nothing but having his way with her. He leaned forward, tasting her sweet lips. She didn’t pull away, but wrapped her arms around him. Lining his tongue along the edge of her mouth, he deepened the kiss. He absorbed her essence into every cell. He couldn’t get enough. Reaching between their bodies, he undid the tie around his waist. Then hers. Delirious, he pulled the robes from between them until skin pressed against skin. Exactly as they were meant to be. Nibbling his way down her neck, he took pleasure in her soft whimpers. She leaned back, opening herself to him. For a moment, he could do nothing but stare at her luscious body, unable to believe she was there with him again.
He ran his tongue across her stomach, from her navel, all the way up to one of her rosy peaks, the taste of tropical fruits and her femininity overwhelming his senses. He sucked a nipple into his mouth, drawing his teeth over her tender skin. She cried out, but held him there rather than pushing him away. As he switched to savor her other breast, she began to rock over him. His semi-hard-on turned into a rock, seeking out a warm pussy. The head of his penis slid easily along her wet lips, but he refused to take the plunge. Way too soon.
Rising to his feet, he laid Ava across the lounger. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”
He rushed over to the gourmet spread of food before his lust took over and he ruined the evening. Collecting a selection of pastries filled with creams and small chunks of juicy fruit, he took a deep breath, trying to stifle his aching cock. Anxious to satisfy another hunger, he carried the plate over to Ava.
He kneeled in front of her. A smile radiated across her face. “Thank you. I didn’t expect the eletin to affect me so much. It’s like the alcohol on Earth. I want you, don’t get me wrong, but….”
Setting a chunk of fruit between his teeth, he captured her lips again. Their tongues darted around the juicy flesh until he swallowed it down. He licked a trail of sweet nectar down her neck. Gods, he’d missed her.
Pinching one of the flaky pastries, he wiped its cream onto her pert, rosy nipples. Hunger and lust pulsed through him, but under it all, something more. More than want. He needed her. Always had. He refused to walk away from her again. Tonight was about more than pleasure, a one-night stand. Somehow, he had to convince her to never return to Earth, to stay with him. An impossible task. But he had to try.
