Review -- Ether & Elephants by Cindy Spencer Pape

Title: Ether & Elephants (Gaslight Chronicles #8)

Author: Cindy Spencer Pape

Genre: Romance, Historical, Steampunk

ebook, 83,160 words
Expected Publication: July 20th 2015 by Carina Press
ASIN: B00N0MYGR8

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

About the book:
Sir Thomas Devere and Eleanor Hadrian have loved each other most of their lives—but sometimes love doesn't conquer all.

Their chance at happiness was ruined by Tom's hasty marriage to someone else. Heartbroken, Nell left home, finding a new life as a teacher at a school for the blind. But when one of her supernaturally gifted students, Charlie, is kidnapped, Tom reappears and her worlds collide.

Tom claims he hasn't seen his wife since the day of their marriage…yet he fears the missing student could be his son.

The deeper they dig, the more Tom and Nell discover: a deadly alchemist, more missing gifted children and long-suppressed feelings neither of them is ready for. A race on airship across England and India may lead them to answers—including a second chance at love—but only if all of British Society isn't destroyed first.

It is no secret that I'm a huge fan of this author, her books are always on the top of my must-read list and I have been waiting to read the next Gaslight Chronicle installment with great anticipation. This one was definitely worth the wait. I immediately fell in love with all of Merrick's clan upon first introduction and have been looking forward to reading Tom and Nell's story. I loved this tale! It was sweet and swift, and it had just the right amount of Steampunk for me as I prefer not to be submersed in heavy, dark details. The descriptions used were just the right amount to paint the world with vivid details and the fine points brought to life the magickal wonder of this world. I was so happy to see so many characters from previous stories and catch up with their lives. This author creates the most endearing cast and Nell and Tom are no exception. The share a wonderful past and yet they are so different and so similar in certain ways that they both firmly planted themselves in my heart. I don't want to give away any details as their story truly needs to be experienced for yourself. The settings were fantastic because I have always wanted to visit India and what better why then to arrive there by airship. This is a not to be missed read!

Review -- Brought To His Knees (Boxed Set)

Title: Brought To His Knees (Boxed Set)
Author: Collection

Publisher: Smashwords Edition

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

About the book:
The Alpha male. Strong. In control. Letting no one and nothing rule him...until he meets the one, and all bets are off. The world tilts, the bed rocks, and suddenly that tough guy finds himself Brought to His Knees--in more ways than one.

This collection of ten hot to erotic novellas and one short erotic novel will take you on journeys of lust, love, and adventure, leave you breathless and quite possibly in need of a cold shower.

A.M. Griffin ~ Dark Wolf Enterprises ~ Murder, mayhem and imprinting with a hot wolf shifter... And they say being an accountant is boring.

Amy Ruttan ~ Building Bridges ~ A vet tech and a lone wolf rancher ride out a sudden storm, but can they weather the emotions they stir up in each other...

Anya Richards ~ Three Strikes ~ Two lonely men. One secret affair. Irresistible passion that will push them both to the breaking point, and beyond.

Jennifer Kacey ~ Beneath The Pages ~ One wicked night with her did nothing but whet his appetite. Now he'll settle for nothing less than her complete submission.

Tina Donahue ~ Make Me Surrender ~ When it comes to two of the hottest guys in town, she has a proposition...to win their attention, passion, hearts.

This fabulous collection offers an Alpha male for every taste by some of the romance genres most talented authors. There is not one story in this collection that I would not recommend to anyone who loves steamy, well-written, erotic, love stories. Be aware these are not your sweet behind-closed door romance stories so if you are shy this might not be your cup of tea. But the cross section of stories offers a wide variety that includes a paranormal shifter story, a few cowboy stories, a couple with mature heroines and many more. The majority of the stories are traditional male-female relationships, but there are two menage stories and one male-male. So this boxed set really does have something to satisfy every romance lover.

Review -- Tropical Heat Series by Sophia Knightly

Title: Tropical Heat Set
Author: Sophia Knightly
Genre: Contemporary
Length: 292 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

About the book:

In Wild for You (Book One), Detective Clay Blackthorne has his hands full when he promises to safeguard an old college pal's sister without letting her know what he's up to. He never imagines that lively Marisol Calderon will knock his socks off and put a ring on his finger--and all at his suggestion! Their marriage of convenience is meant to protect her and Clay doesn't plan on being hitched for long to the tempting beauty. But the honeymoon sure feels real to him...

Sassy Marisol is used to doing whatever she wants--and right now her plan is to shake up the hot detective's hard-edged demeanor. But the fun turns to danger when a mystery stalker bent on marrying her marks her as his prey. Temporarily becoming Clay's wife seems like a practical way to thwart the stalker. But as passion ignites and Marisol falls for the tender heart buried beneath the tough detective's chest, Clay's true identity is revealed and she begins to wonder who--if anyone--she can trust...

In Sold on You, (Book Two) Confirmed bachelor Dr. Marcos Calderon is in hot water. He needs to come up with a fake fiancée fast or he'll disappoint his beloved grandma who's arriving on the next flight to meet her. Proper social worker Gabriela Morales should fit the bill--but tonight, in that sexy, slit-to-there red evening gown, she looks anything but proper.

Gabriela only volunteered for the hospital's charity bachelorette auction to benefit a cause dear to her heart. Now she's reeling from the hot doctor's bid of fifteen thousand dollars for a weekend date with her! She's not sure what Dr. Handsome has in mind, but the smoldering look in his eyes is unmistakable...

This box set contains two fabulous stories full of similarities and differences. Both stories have strong heroines and even stronger heroes. One story has a little more action while the other has a more subtle appeal, but both are truly pleasing. I'm a fan of this author and love her sweet, yet sexy stories. Both stories are heartwarming and could have easily become typical fare but the author's skillful storytelling takes it up a notch. I stayed up all night reading these stories, and wasn't sorry once all day for my lack of sleep. In fact I'm looking forward to many more of this author's stories, leading to many more sleepless nights. If you are looking for some wonderful old-fashioned romance this set is the perfect choice.

Review -- Something to Talk About by Dakota Cassidy

Title: Something to Talk About (Plum Orchard 2)

Author: Dakota Cassidy

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Length: Paperback, 384 pages

Publication: May 27, 2014 by Harlequin MIRA

Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Emmeline Amos is sick of her ex saying she's boring and prissy. After all, she works for a phone-sex company! (As general manager, but still.) On a rare girls' night out, fueled by blender drinks and bravado, Em accepts a shocking dare—to handle a call herself. But it's tipsy Em who gets an earful from an irate single father on the other end of the line. Awkward.

But not as awkward as discovering that same mad dad is Call Girls' gorgeous new programmer. Jax Hawthorne is still upset that his daughter called the "girlfriend store" on his behalf, but he can't deny he'd choose a hot-librarian type like Em if he were looking for love. Which he's not.

Em wants to do more than just talk the talk. So she makes a bawdy bargain with Jax. They've both been burned before—this time, they'll keep it strictly physical. Except as soon as they settle on no strings attached, things start to get tangled.

There is no denying the fact that I’m a super fan of this author, in fact I’ve even converter my mother to her dark and hilarious offerings so to say I expect a lot from one of her books is no exaggeration. This was definitely a different installment to the Plum Orchard series as there was more laughter than tears for me, but still plenty of emotion. And oh boy, plenty of hot and steamy sex. I really liked Emmeline in the previous book and was so excited she was going to star in the next book and here story was definitely not what I was expecting. Thank you Dakota Cassidy for the pleasant surprise and the many zingers that had me spewing my drink. You’d think I’d know better by now than to attempt drinking anything while reading one of your hilarious stories. Emmeline, is the type of good-girl sexy I’ve always wanted to be and Jax (and his brothers) is the type of man I’ve always dreamt about an honest to goodness nice guy with an extra helping of sexiness. I loved that they are both a little wounded and have something they must overcome, because we all have pasts that often affect us. The bottom line is that this was another entertaining visit to Plum Orchard and I cannot wait to take my next trip.

Dru has to hide the fact that he’s not Wiccan long enough to infiltrate a Portsmouth, NH coven, which is the only lead he has.

Dru needs a job and a place to stay. Rebecca needs cheap help, and he’s willing to work for nothing. Perhaps he can pick her brain about Wicca and she can learn how to run a business from a ranch foreman—if lust doesn’t drive them crazy first.

Ashlyn Chase has done it again! I feel bad that I have set up such high expectations for this author but with every book she releases she not only meets my elevated expectations she exceeds them. Real life can sometimes be a drag and a fun light read is always a great answer to every problem and when I pick up one of Ashlyn Chase’s books I know that I’m going to be giggling soon and falling in love right along side of the heroine. Her quirky sense of humor and her unpredictable characters always leave me feeling happy and after all what more can you ask for? She transports me to a place where I suspend my disbelief and just let go and I’m ever so grateful for it. Dru is a fantastic hero, there's nothing sexier than a man who can make you laugh. Rebecca is a sweetheart! And I loved the full cast of characters I met in the first book of this new series. I cannot wait to read more about them all.

Review -- Talk Dirty To Me by Dakota Cassidy

Title: Talk Dirty to Me (Plum Orchard 1)

Author: Dakota Cassidy

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Length: Paperback, 400 pages

Expected publication: April 29, 2014 by Harlequin MIRA

Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Plum Orchard, Georgia, is about to get even juicier…

Notorious mean girl Dixie Davis is back in town and it's payback time. Literally. Dixie is flat broke and her best—make that only—friend, Landon, is throwing her a lifeline from the Great Beyond. Dixie stands to inherit his business…if she meets a few conditions:

She's got to live in Landon's mansion.

With her gorgeous ex-fiancé, Caine Donovan.

Who could also inherit the business.

Which is a phone sex empire.

Wait, what?

Landon's will lays it out: whoever gets the most new clients becomes the owner of Call Girls. Dixie has always been in it to win it, especially when it comes to Caine, who's made it clear he's not going down easy. (Oh, mercy.) Can Dixie really talk dirty and prove that she's cleaned up her act? Game on!

Have I mentioned how much I love Dakota Cassidy's writing style, she makes me laugh out loud and burst out with more than the occasional snort. After reading, Talk This Way, the novella introductory story to this new series I have been eagerly anticipating this story and let me say I was not disappointed. This story let me experience an array of emotions and gave me a deep connection with every character I read about. Plum Orchard is a fantastic setting, bad apples and all I’d still love to live there. I love how this story encompassed so many facets of life; friendship, romance, work and everything else that rounds out our day to day existence. Reformation is always a great subject matter and this author turns it in to one fantastic emotional journey. Watching Dixie and Caine interact is a prize in itself but when you add in all the bonus characters that come along you feel like you hit the jackpot. I cannot wait to read Emmeline’s story! Trust me, pick this one up. I’ll be getting a copy for my mother too because everyone needs to enjoy a charming story full of humor, wit and emotion.

Review -- Download My Love by Eva Lefoy

Author: Eva Lefoy
Availability: EBook
Formats: application/pdf
Genre: Erotica
Tags: - Short Book / Novella, Erotic Romance, Futuristic, Science Fiction
Publisher: Decadent Publishing Company, LLC
Rating: 5 stars

About the book:
Security Core agent Everett is assigned a special case—protect the daughter of Simon Gold, the father of modern mechanoid life. To ensure her survival, Everett’s given a special EMO upgrade, and can experience love for the first time. He’s soon head over heels and the super-charged sexual attraction threatens to fry his circuits while he fights to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
Samantha Gold detests her father’s work. She’s an off-the-grid back-to-lander who wants to keep life simple with her cows and her crops. When her father dies and inadvertently transfers a secret code to a hidden receptor in her brain, it’s only android Agent Everett who can protect her. Can she ever forgive her father for creating Everett—a man so perfect for her that he even loves her cows?

To be completely honest I wasn't sure what to expect with this story. I've read this author's work before and enjoyed it but while I adore watching Star Trek TNG and science fiction is not something I gravitate towards in my taste for romantic stories but I think I might have to rethink that choice as the last few I've read have been quite enjoyable. This is a very quick, very adventuresome read and left me with a big smile on my face. It was surprisingly emotional and at points made me teary and had me chuckling out loud. Everett is an outstanding hero, he is perfect for Sam and a treat to read about. Sam is a strong independent woman, a trait I always admire and I loved watching her dealing with so many radical changes to her beliefs. If you are looking for a quick, steamy yet sweet light futuristic read this is a definite must-read.

Review -- An American Werewolf in Hoboken by Dakota Cassidy

Title: An American Werewolf in Hoboken

Author: Dakota Cassidy

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Expected publication: April 11, 2014

Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Here's the blurb--Coming soon. Like THIS FRIDAY SOON--EEK! AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN HOBOKEN

Book 1 in the Wolf Mates Series

Wooing a life mate can be hard enough for a wolf, wooing one while under the threat of a curse even more so.

Wooing a mate while pretending to be her dog? Nearly impossible.

After being drugged and captured by Animal Control, Max Adams is on Hoboken's doggie death row when his life mate adopts him, takes him home, and promptly names him Fluffy. While JC, in all her new-pet-owner-ness, feeds "Fluffy" vile kibble, dresses him in mortifying dog couture, and schedules to have his his manhood removed, Max's human side gets to know JC.

Especially in the biblical sense. Hopefully well enough to make her fall madly in love, mate with him under the full moon, and move with him to Cedar Glen to live happily ever after forever and ever amen. And fast.

Because the curse comes with a deadline...and the clock is ticking.

I love some chuckles with my romance and if I can giggle while fanning myself it’s a sure-fire winner for me. And let me say this was a hit for me. Any many who can remain seriously sexy after admitting to having his anal gland taken care of while in shifter form is definitely a keeper. Max and his pack are fascinating and I cannot wait to read more about these unusual and captivating characters. I’m a huge fan of smart and sassy heroines, the ones who say what I’ve always wanted too and still look sexy doing it. JC is a breath of fresh air just like the author who created her; witty and amusing and just over-the-top enough to keep me smiling long after I’ve stopped reading. If you are a fan of light-paranormal you have to check out this book. I can’t wait to read the next in what I hope is a long and successful series.

Review -- Talk This Way by Dakota Cassidy

Title: Talk This Way (Plum Orchard 0.5)

Author: Dakota Cassidy
Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Length: eBook Novella
Expected publication: April 1, 2014 by MIRA
Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Enlarge cover

If life is like a box of chocolates, Cat Butler has tasted them all—and decided on none. It's no wonder she can't keep a job, even though her mother's health depends on it. Just when she finds herself up a creek without a paddle—again—a benevolent friend throws her a lifeline. In the form of a job at, of all places, a phone sex hotline. Not exactly what she had in mind, but if it pays the bills for her mom's expensive nursing home, what's the harm?

Successful entrepreneur Flynn McGrady knows a thing or two about responsibility. So when his mother has a stroke, he knows the right thing to do is relocate to Atlanta to be near her while she recovers. He's got a plan for everything—except for feisty Cat, who finally gets his mama to talk again. Talk dirty, that is, and he's not pleased. Cat is gorgeous and sassy to boot…too bad she's not the type to settle down.

Cat and Flynn may have bigger fish to fry, but the sparks between them are hotter than hell. And when they finally give in to temptation, the results are explosive. Can a girl who follows her heart and a guy who follows his head find their way to forever?

I am completely hooked! I cannot wait to read the upcoming Plum Orchard series! Dakota Cassidy is one of my favourite authors, her laugh out loud humor and lovable characters always guarantee an enjoyable read and this short story was no exception. I loved the emotional rollercoaster ride this story took me on. I became immediately entrenched in Cat's life and wanted so much for things to work out for her. Her radiant personality could barely be contained on the pages yet she wasn't unrealistic or clichéd. Flynn immediately caught my attention and I loved watching him dealing with his changing emotions. I don't want to give anything away but I truly feel in love with Cat's generous friend and feel as if he has a permanent spot in my heart. I cannot wait to read about what happens with these wonderful characters as they settle in a new town and no doubt take it by storm.

Review -- Heart Tamer by Sophia Knightly

Title: Heart Tamer

Author: Sophia Knightly

Genre:  Contemporary Romance, Holiday Romance

Length: eBook Novella

Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Alec remembers why they parted and he’s determined not to get pulled in, but seeing her again ignites a desire so intense he's tempted. Will he be able to resist?

In this fiery second chance at love, whose heart will be tamed?

I love Scottish hotties and Alec MacLeod is the perfect Highland hero. I’ll admit I’m not usually a fan of reunited romances but I love this author and the setting so I thought it wouldn’t kill me to give it a chance. I’m so glad I did. This was a wonderfully sweet and energetic quick read, full of emotion and it takes place in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. I have read Heart Melter so it was nice to catch up with some old friends but I know they definitely would not impede anyone’s enjoyment if they hadn’t read the previous story, however I can bet they will want to after reading this sexy short.

Review -- Kissing With Fangs by Ashlyn Chase

Title: Kissing With Fangs (Flirting with Fangs Trilogy #3)
Author: Ashlyn Chase
Genre:  Mass Market Paperback
Published: March 4 2014 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
Length:  352 pages
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

About the book:
There's Something He's Never Told Her...

When her workplace burned down, Claudia should've taken it as a sign to move on—and not just professionally. She's been secretly lusting after her mysterious boss, Anthony Cross, for years. There's no way she should agree to help him rebuild if she wants to keep her heart intact, and yet it's impossible to stay away...

The flames that destroyed Anthony Cross's beloved bar are nothing compared to the heat he feels every time he lays eyes on Claudia. But he can't have her—it's against paranormal law for a vampire to date a human. Besides, he has some dangerous enemies, and one in particular already has her sights on Claudia. He owes her the truth—both about his feelings and his vampire nature—which means their lives are about to get hotter than ever...

Well, it's no secret how much I adore this author and this series! I wondered how she was going to handle the enigmatic Anthony but I never guessed the journey he and Claudia would take, and that we as readers would get to go along for the roller coaster ride. With her usual flirty and fun style the author takes on some very serious topic matters in this installment and never fails to entertain. I absolutely loved how we finally got to find out more about Anthony; every time he made an appearance in each previous book he completely ensnared me, leaving with so many questions left unanswered. And now all has been revealed and when we get to delve deeper into Claudia's life and psyche I was so surprised by some of her personality traits and idiosyncrasies. With this story it was as if all my questions had been answered. I love how the thorn in Anthony's side became such a big part of this story and how we also learned how she'd become the vampire she was and why she continuously acting the way she did. I will say that I never thought I'd feel about her the way I do now and I believe she might just be one of the most fascinating ladies ever written. Rumour has it that there will be another series coming from this one and I'm already counting down to read it!

My goodness but this is a fine group of men in a fabulous set of stories. While I enjoyed all the stories my two favorites were Heart Raider by Sophia Knightly and Bedding The Wrong Brother by Virna DePaul. In Heart Raider we get to meet  a fabulously strong heroine, Ronnie and there's nothing I love more than good solid matches for sexy heroes. In Bedding the wrong brother we meet Melina, who couldn't be more different from Ronnie but is equally as appealing. For me the heroines are just as important as the heroes and with the Lucky 7 Bad Boys Contemporary Romance Boxed Set I knew I was in for some sexy and smart leading men and was so pleased to get some riveting ladies as well.

Review -- Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic by Sam Cheever

Title: Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic
Author: Sam Cheever
Genre:  Romance, Paranormal, Futuristic
Length: 105  pages
Published: March 8, 2014
Rating: 5 stars

About the book:
A grand passion in an apocalyptic world. A love beyond reason and without boundaries.
He’s a warrior, a bounty hunter in a world turned upside down. She’s a target, a creature of dark magic. His job is simple. Kill the target. Her goal is more complex. She must stay alive until she finds and destroys the source of death magic staining the twenty worlds. But the passion burning within them may be their undoing. It’s going to take an apocalyptic will to overcome the distraction their bodies are creating…and not lose themselves in the process.

This story jumps right into the action and never lets up! Yeira is a kick-butt heroine but she's still easy to relate to, which was surprising considering her amazingly unique situation. Kord is the ultimate Alpha and he took my breath away. He's masculine and imposing and while he is steadfast and dependable he is also a good man at heart. I so enjoyed watching him deal with the revelations he encounters.  The setting becomes almost a third lead character and I loved it. I cannot wait to read more stories about the fabulous world this author has created. I'm also looking forward to learning more about Grimm and just what his story is. I will freely admit to being a huge fan of this author, I love her Honeybun series but I was a little apprehensive of reading an apocalyptic story as I rarely enjoy them but this one was a definite exception not only did thoroughly enjoy it I want more!

Review -- Valentine Wishes by Daisy Banks

Title: Valentine Wishes
Author: Daisy Banks
Genre:  Fantasy, Contemporary, Romantic Comedy
Published: February 2014 by Liquid Silver Books
Rating: 5 stars

About the book:

Fairy wishes are hot, but Poppy’s aim is not! Watch what happens when a novice fairy accidentally spikes the party punch with a powerful love wish in Valentine Wishes, Daisy Banks’ new, thoroughly entertaining romantic comedy.

As a huge fan of Shakespeare’s A Mid Summer Night’s Dream and fun fairies in all forms I was certainly looking forward to reading this story and I was not disappointed at all. Daisy Banks writes a perfectly playful story about Poppy the bumbling fairy and her three humans. Let’s face it, this winter has been nothing if not harsh so far and Ms. Banks made me forget the wind chill. When it is so cold inside that your teeth chatter and you are covered in goose bumps it is pretty amazing to be so removed from reality and wrapped up in a story that even blue lips and finger tips don’t faze you. Ms. Banks has a fantastic way with description especially when it comes to the everyday items or scenes. She is an author I always look forward to reading and I know you will too.

Review -- A Handful of Wolf by Sofia Grey

Title: A Handful of Wolf (Snowdonia Wolves #2)
Author: Sofia Grey
Genre:  Paranormal, Contemporary Erotica
Published: Published November 2013 by Liquid Silver Books
Rating: 5 stars

About the book:
Sasha's not a looking-to-the-future kind of guy, but he's made an exception with his plans to travel and meet lots of pretty girls. Too bad his Pack Alpha, fate, and reality have other ideas about his trip abroad. He's pretty sure he didn't sign on to be a diplomat for the Snowdonia Wolf Pack. Or to find a Mate. Especially not a human Mate.

Megan knows better than to let a sweet-talking charmer get under her skin, but Sasha's sexy playfulness is making her forget all her rules. Except one: she's not willing to risk her heart by falling in love. The gorgeous boy from Wales can only be a fling, especially since her over-protective brothers hate him on sight.

In the midst of a wolf uprising, a hesitant Mate, and Megan’s complicated family ties, Sasha learns that sometimes impulsiveness is dangerous and even lethal. Can he show Megan why they belong together before it all comes crashing down around him and he loses his Mate forever?

After reading the first in this series I have been anticipating the next and this story did not leave me disappointed. I found the hero Sasha to be even more engaging than Jake which is hard to believe considering how much I adored him. The characters were fabulously developed and I loved the interactions between Megan and Sasha, they are completely perfect for one another, like two pieces coming together to make it whole. I am still giggling over their first meeting. This was a fabulous follow up in the series and I cannot wait to read the next. If you enjoy sexy werewolf shifters and their spunky mates in intriguing situations then this one is a must read!
