Just when I think life is on track something small
and seemingly insignificant will pull me back into the quagmire. This morning while
getting ready for work the light reflected on my pale skin as I stood at the
sink in only my bra brushing my teeth. As part of my regular routine I never gave a
thought to the disfigurement running down the middle of my torso from beneath
the black silk to below where the countertop starts. It wasn’t the highly visible
mark that stopped me cold, it was the tiny starburst in the centre of my hand as
it caught the light and pulled me into the darkness. With years behind me I’d
hoped to finally put this in my past and carry on but fear instantly clutched
my belly and I was transported back, inundated by memories of when my life and
near death had been an absolute nightmare. I wanted to drop my toothbrush burst
into tears and crawl back under my bed covers. Instead I stood, eyes transfixed
on that millimetre of scarred skin. It felt like hours but I made it. I gave
myself a quick wink and I continued brushing my teeth.

I have horrors like that over something, perhaps we all do. But, you are stronger and prouder having fought off the panic and terror. So well written and poignantly described. Been there...:) xo
Hmm, I'm a little lost on what she's remembering. I'm glad she's moving on though. thanks for the tease.
oh very powerful
Very well described. I could feel an almost blind panic and her strength to climb above it.
Powerful and extremely well written
Excellently written. I think most people can identify with a fear that makes them want to crawl under the sheets. I know I can. Very moving and I'm glad she can move on
Emotive, yet positive. Great storytelling and the tease of not revealing too much!
so powerful Venus....it shows the fear and memories we all face and some of us overcome....good job.
A deeply moving description of her fear and terrifying memories. Happy with the positive outcome though. A very well written teaser indeed!
Wow, great teaser! It was uplifting!
The simplest thing... is sometimes a trigger when big things wash off our backs like water off a duck. Great post
